Companion planting: a time-tested gardening technique
For generations, gardeners have used companion planting to grow plants together that benefit each other—repelling pests naturally and optimizing growth.
In a Véritable Indoor Garden, the needs are different: your plants grow soilless in separate compartments, minimizing the spread of pests and diseases. This is one of the key advantages of hydroponic gardening!
However, one essential resource remains crucial for their development: light. To ensure each plant receives optimal lighting and thrives, it’s important to arrange them properly in your Véritable Indoor Garden.
In this article, discover how to strategically place your Lingots® for abundant and harmonious growth.
The golden rules for optimal Lingot® placement
To help your plants thrive, follow these three key placement principles:
✅ Similar height: Group plants of similar height together.
✅ Growth speed: Combine Lingots® with comparable growth cycles.
✅ Species and botanical family: Arrange plants with similar needs together.
💡 Tip: If a plant starts overshadowing its neighbors, trim it regularly… and use it in your favorite recipes!
How to arrange Lingots® based on their size and growth
Small Plants
- Thyme, Beet Sprouts, Red Mustard, Pansy Flowers
These plants stay low but can spread. Place them in the center of your Véritable Indoor Garden (position 2 or 3) to ensure they receive enough light.
Medium-Sized Plants
- Chives, Coriander, Curly Parsley, Small Green Basil, Oregano, Mizuna, Swiss Chard, Green Mustard, Cherry Tomatoes
These plants grow at different speeds and heights.
Tip: Place Chives in the center, as they require a lot of light. Arrange the others based on their growth speed to avoid excessive shading.
Tall Plants
- Large Green Basil, Thai Basil, Purple Basil, Lemon Basil, Cinnamon Basil, Flat Parsley, Lemon Balm, Sage, Salad Burnet, Mini Peppers, Hot Peppers
These plants grow rapidly. Group them based on growth speed and botanical family to create a balanced layout.
Voluminous Plants
- Pak Choi, Zucchini Flowers, Green Mint, Batavia Lettuce, Oak Leaf Lettuce
These plants take up space in both width and height.
Tip: Place them at the edges (position 1 or 4) to prevent them from overcrowding other plants, and trim them regularly.
Fruiting Plants
- Cherry Tomatoes, Hot Peppers, Mini Peppers
These plants require pollination and grow voluminously. Position them at the ends of your Véritable Indoor Garden for easier access to flowers when manually pollinating.
Optimize your Lingot® placement in your indoor garden
By arranging your Lingots® according to their height, growth speed, and light requirements, you can maximize plant growth and boost your harvest. Try out these plant pairings and watch your indoor garden flourish!
